Recreation Facility Offers Extra Hours
The Student Recreation Facility in the Greer Field House will be open extra hours this year. The changes will benefit students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.
The facility will be open every night until midnight, and will open weekdays at 6 a.m. The extra evening hours are consistent with a recommendation from the President's Substance Abuse Task Force.
In addition, some previously reduced intersession hours will be restored. Beginning Jan. 5, the facility will be open Monday through Friday from noon until 8 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. Beginning next May, the facility's hours will increase by adding Saturday and Sunday, noon until 4 p.m. Summer intramural programs will also be reinstated.
The decision to restore intersession, summer, and early morning hours is in response to many requests from faculty and staff. Membership fees are being increased to help offset the increased costs. Fees for faculty and staff will increase by $25 per semester.
"We are proud of the quality of the University's recreational facilities and are glad to extend access to all members of the University community," says Jeff Hathaway, director of athletics. "We are confident that membership in our recreational facility is the most cost-effective option available for health and exercise, and expect many members of the University community to take advantage of this extended opportunity for health and wellness."
The new rates per semester, effective Aug. 25, are:
