Homecoming Celebrations
Scheduled For October 19-20
By Sarah Breckenridge

The buttery smell of popcorn on the cool October breeze. The taste of warm hotdogs. The brazen sound of the Marching Band. The bright colors adorning the parade floats.

The events of the University's 2002 Homecoming, from Saturday, Oct. 19 to Sunday, Oct. 20, will appeal to all five senses.

And members of the University community and their families will find something for everyone during the weekend celebrations.

On Saturday, the events begin with a 10 a.m. Homecoming Parade from Gilbert Road to Fairfield Way.

At noon, the football game between UConn and Temple will kick off in Memorial Stadium, with the Marching Band featured during half-time. Tickets are available from the Athletic Ticket Office, at 877.288.2666.

Immediately after the game, an alumni barbeque and kids carnival will be held at the Alumni Center. The carnival will feature life-sized puppets from the Ballard Institute & Museum of Puppetry and college booths set up in the Alumni Center Parking Lot. Entertainment will include the UConn jazz combos directed by Earl MacDonald of the School of Fine Arts.

To close the evening, "Stompfest", a rhythmic step show featuring music produced with the hands and feet, will be performed at von der Mehden Recital Hall, beginning at 7 p.m. Contact 860.486.4954 for tickets and information.

Festivities continue on Sunday, Oct. 20. At 1 p.m. the UConn women's soccer team will battle Seton Hall at Morrone Stadium.
